Testimony Need on "Voter ID"
Friday, April 3, 2009(Gene Lantz)
The Texas Senate trashed their usual rules in order to pass "Voter-ID" legislation, that is supposed to keep imposters from voting in elections. However, no such problem exists. Those who would like to safeguard the voting rights of thousands of Texas seniors and disabled people are mobilizing to testify at the Texas House on Tuesday, April 7.
They will begin testimony in the early afternoon in the Reagan building, next to the Capitol Building. Progressives who would like to testify are asked to e-mail rene@texasaflcio.org.
At the UAW Retiree Seminar on March 31, the President of the North Texas UAW Retiree Council, Mary Holomek, asked the audience to contact the Tarrant County Democratic Party about the possibility of getting a bus ride to Austin.
The proposed legislation would require all voters to carry a state-issued picture identification card. Those who do not presently have a drivers' license would have to buy the card from the state.
