Retirees Went to Texas Capitol

Friday, February 27, 2009

On Friday, February 19, (the last day of lobby week) we went to the capitol in Austin. Pictures were taken. We met some of the legislative member from all over the state. We explained to them that this was Lobby week with ARA. We signed folks up to received the Friday Alert. We wrote letters to U.S. Congressman Gene Green. We will meet with him next week along with Alma Allen and Representative Al Green.

We discussed the medical needs of our seniors.  I told them about my gall bladder removal.  The cost was 46,000 dollars. If we didn't have the ARA working on our behalf, it would have cost much more. It is important that we have people working on our behalf in Washington.  I also told them that $250.00 dollars (stimlus package for Social Security one time offer) would not pay for the medication that I take on a daily basis. We will have to lobby for better health care and relief on prescription dugs.

I also, mentioned that we need a senior member on the counsel board.  I hope we get somebody there that really understand what seniors are going through.
